Kolob Canyons

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

So we were driving to Chuck and Jennie Castles’ place in Denver and stopped on Interstate 15 out of St. George at Kolob Canyons, Zion National Park, Utah.

Very cool little jaunt directly east of Interstate 15 that encompasses a visitor center and a five mile dead end drive into the canyons.

The weather was unsettled with showers so the lighting was fantastic.

The road is chip and sealed with what appears to be native crushed red rock so the road matches the phenomenal views of geologic massiveness, all with a red hue.

We took the 3/4 mile hike at the end of the 5 mile drive and got caught in a medium downpour. Not enough to get soaked but enough to add some mud to the feet and moisture in the clothes.

Breathtaking and worth the visit.

What Does Business Do?

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

I’ve always wondered.

Economics being a phenomenon that is inexplicable (though that hasn’t stopped anyone) is scientific enough, maybe. Agreed upon mayhem, mass delusion, yet still somehow functions.

But the distance from actual on the ground production and trading of goods is so great when sitting in the corner office looking at the view punching keys and making calls that the question arises.

What does business do?

This question makes me curious enough to want to delve deeper even though obviously the corner office guys are managers and or speculators so the answer seems simple enough. However, there are entire high rise buildings full of these business folks all producing absolutely nothing while pulling down a salary and contributing to the mass delusion that is our economy.

I’ll get back to you.
