The Luxury to Philosophize

Wondering. Pondering. Wandering.

One of the ironies of higher thought is that thinking is utterly useless, as is life.

Once upon a time there was a time, or a place, when self awareness developed followed by the vanity of humanity. This led inexorably to thinking for the sake of thinking. Philosophy is the result. What do philosophers do? In the words of Einstein’s dad in Young Einstein “what do they grow son?” in reference to Einstein’s desire to be a physicist illustrates the same conundrum that philosophers face.

Thinking has led humankind to great achievements, from their perspective, and to the end of a life supporting globe.

Ah the irony. Thinking our way to oblivion. Fitting, I think.

“Thinking our way to oblivion” – a good title for the next OED CD.

Although since it’s music, I guess it would more appropriately be entitled “Plinking our way to oblivion”.

Good one Insanity! I guess “dinking” would work too.
