Commercial

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

If you are a musician and play for the music, not fame, glory, or women, then you will recall listening to a tune or piece of music and dismissing it out of hand as “commercial”. I remember.

My buddy Victor Moreno loaned us Jazz by Ken Burns and I was pleased to see that this practice goes back many decades.

Real musicians versus profiteers.

Which isn’t to say that commercial music is always without musical merit, but mostly is.

When I was jamming back in the eighties the commercial music scene was far more wholesome than today’s, and yet we true musician’s still puked at the thought of producing such crap. So we don’t.

And are happy musicians. But out there somewhere, is someone who will say, when listening to our tunage. . . “commercial”.

Final analysis and Off Every Day’s reason to be, it’s the music.

What is Being?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Well, promised to address this.

Be whatever you want to be.

Now really, defining oneself is not as simple as it seems. If I were a mechanic, or carpenter, or musician, or beautician, no wait, I am, well, suspend that for a second, if I were a physicist, is that what I am?

No, literally I am whatever I, or the group defines. Say, human being. Take it out of the biologically literal and we usually wind up at craft, or career, or work of choice, or work of force as the victims would proclaim, so we are Doctors and Lawyers and so on.

Be whatever you want to be? Another touchstone of the insane, we measure ourselves by our daily work, and yet, any given meaning (where there is none inherently of course) usually has an underpinning of emotional, ethical, values, love, joy, contentment, peace. So what am I?

I am honest.

Moving Forward

opportunityisnowhere

I think I touched on this before, funny how that is, we repeat ourselves endlessly, for the well of creativity is finite, and the obsessions of vision appear limited when faced with a blank computer screen, so much to say, so little time, so. . .hey, I’m drawing a blank.

What do you see? Came across this in a Kirby sales training, about mind set, the entrepreneur versus the employee type of attitude.

OPPORTUNITYISNOWHERE

Probably not a fair question as the human brain is so conditioned to put things together but the point is very illuminating

OPPORTUNITY IS NOWHERE and OPPORTUNITY IS NOW HERE

Which did you see? If you are at all like me, and the rest of us, your brain picked out the first. But if you think different, or let’s just say you have an open mind that is without boundary, you probably saw both, deciphered the point of the lesson, and gave the right answer to the insane trainer, opportunity is now here.

What appeals to me in this little exercise is the affirmation of our conditioned thinking. Our concepts of time. Our concepts of opportunity. How we limit our windows of opportunity, how we constantly accept a fate of mediocrity as a convenience based on the down attitude of lack of opportunity, or missed opportunity, how we see these windows as ending, and how we fail to recognize the we live in the moment, and this moment, this very moment holds all the wonder of newness and peace and everything else, as any other moment.

Moving forward. Thinking forward. Really amounts to being here now, being here now within that unfortunate construct that creates the illusion of time, and the illusion therefore of future, and planning, and goal setting and blah, blah, blah.

Within that construct, shedding the limits of our phobias, will set you free, to be, whatever you want to be. And what is being? Another topic for another day.

Moving forward is all we do, and we do it backwards most of the time.

Opportunity Is Now Here

Ethics and Integrity

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Directly related to truth. Recently I observed the US Congress and President meddling in freedom of expression issues, diverting their attention, as always, from issues, and I observed a complete lack of conviction, yet again, on the part of any representatives.

Public trust is dead. There is no person, or few, willing to stand up for truth, speak truth, observe truth, show some common sense, and act accordingly.

To act without political fear, without posturing, without concern about retribution and retaliation, without a calculated disingenuousness, from the self, from personal values, from the heart, from conviction, with integrity, with ethics, takes a type of person long absent from government. There is risk involved in any action, calculated or not.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and we here in the US are presiding over the greatest fall in history.

We got what we deserve.

Living Better Choices

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Nived’s deal about living better choices. Pretty funny actually. The man mocks me constantly. I love it.

So what’s it all about? The NHM adage that we live our values, adage and truth. Despite any conceptual misgivings, or proselytizing, or so called beliefs, what it all boils down to is what we do is what we value, literally.

So what Devin was somewhat flippantly referring to, then, is that if our actions display, reveal, affirm values we don’t particularly like or want to acknowledge then make better choices, hence, have better values.

Have Better Values, love that too.

As Yianni would say, or quote depending on your readness, be true to yourself.

Yesterday’s History Tomorrow’s a Mystery

Which brings us to the topic of the moment. Not the topic in the moment, but the topic about the moment. . .for the moment.

I’ll say it again, we exist only now. We exist only in this moment. We exist only in the present. We experience only now. We see only now. We hear only now. We are now here. Or is that nowhere?

Off Every Day did a number about this one, Here and Now. The title sums it up. The interesting thing is that though we intellectually know this, we spend, actually waste, the moment by ignoring it. This moment is all we will ever have.

All the rest is a diversion to drive you insane.
