Hope Springs Eternal

Yes indeed.

The thought of many things is not necessarily the way of things, in fact, rarely. The way of things is what one comes to grip with or not. When one does get a grip on the way of things, then, one can move in other directions and change the way of things, albeit slowly, but surely, or not.

Is this contradictory? Does achievement as identified by the individual come at the expense of the way of things? Or is achievement the way of things?

Still, hope springs eternal, that one will become what one is not, or do what one does not, until the day when one can let it all go.

You have to let it all go, Neo.

this is an interesting idea but i’m not sure i fully understand. any way you can elaborate or give an example? or does it just mean i don’t understand the way of things?

We’ve probably discussed this before, but how can one become what one is not? It seems to me that we work at moving all the crud out of the way and finally discover what we really are – and have been all along.

Agent Brown: Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions.

    OK boys.

Hazel, let me explain. The way of thing is reality. Accepting who you are is letting it all go. Becoming (symbolically Insanity) what you want to be, or do, is realizing that letting it all go frees you to. . . let it all go. For example, if I want to be a rock star, but never record any music, or perform live, then I will not be a rock star, assuming we can agree on the definition of rock star. If I accept that, I am more likely to record or perform. I suppose the funny thing is, lack of motivation does not preclude fantasizing in the abstract, yet somehow we hold onto these dreams as real. Did I tell you a dream is a reflection of something real?

So Insanity, we have to agree upon a set of givens in order to even have this discussion. We agree that nothing has meaning without point of view. That point of view is what I am referring to when I say “become”.

The really amazing thing about perception is how powerful it really is. Internally. As I am attacked, I can feel whatever I want. As I am exalted, I can feel whatever I want. As I am disdained, I can feel whatever I want. What I feel, defines who I am, to me, and ultimately outwardly. Knowing this rarely produces control over one’s feelings. But the truth is, we are in control of our perceptions.

This is the way of things.

So would you agree that one’s point of view (becoming) and reality (the way things are) may not have any direct correlation?

  5. Mark Stamas says:

Becoming what? Who am I? Philosophy, philosophy, such a drag. Why do I always feel like you are trying to trap me in a contradiction? Reality, or perception? What really pisses off many is when they do I say, “you’re right, I did” or “you’re correct, I was wrong” and mean it. What the heck do ya say to that?

Yes. I would. May not have any direct correlation is putting it mildly. Will not more likely. Reality and perception are as distinct as can be and rarely connected. Remember the idiom “perception is nine tenths of reality”? Like taste. There is no accounting for taste.

The premise of NHM is that I know it all and you can too for a small fee. Seeking truth is not knowing truth. I know the way of things, but how can I be sure? I just am.

My perception is reality, yours is nine tenths of reality, Nived’s is Southpark.

  6. insanityisnoexcuse says:

Not trying to trap you in a contradiction, dude, just trying to come to agreement on some philosophical principles as to discourse with some amount of sensibility. Besides, any contradictions you proffer will trap you themselves; they won’t need my help… Or another point of view may be that only the paranoid feel they are being trapped – ha ha ha!

I’m correct, you were not wrong.

    Hey, 9/10 ain’t bad!!!

  7. Mark Stamas says:

No it certainly isn”t, but South Park is pretty good too.

Was being facet tee ous. However, the illustration was well taken, let”s say I thought you were gunning for contradictions and you weren”t, from my point of view there is no difference. If you were, and I thought so, same thing. If you were and I thought not, again, to me it”s all the same.

Reminds me of the old saying that Joanne got such a kick out of:

Just because you”re paranoid doesn”t mean they aren”t out to get you.

  8. insanityisnoexcuse says:

Using your gunning analogies as an example, part of the reason we are all having this discourse (IMHO) is that through talking, we can clarify thoughts and terms and move one another past a static point of view which may have been created with less than a full understanding of intentions – whether it’s due to not being explained correctly in the first place or incomplete understanding in the second place is not really relevant. What is relevant is that with a little communication we might possibly urge one another to open our minds a little more, and in that sense, start letting things go…

I am insanityisnoexcuse and this post is approved by me and is completely correct.
Only your interpretation may be wrong.

  9. Mark Stamas says:

Wow. I like sabbatical boy. Very verbose.

Absolutely, what I perceive is what I perceive, what you perceive is what you perceive, I am right and you are wrong. Haha.

Communication is key. However, one may not necessarily need to communicate at all.

Others may have wrong interpretations of Insanity too I assume, or am I the only one who may misunderstand Insanity? I have no excuse.

  10. insanityisnoexcuse says:

Everyone is free to misunderstand Insanity. For those who do understand me, I usually try to charge a small fee.

But either way, there is no excuse.
